| Who is Colin
Mansell
Born in Hertfordshire, raised in Cromer in Norfolk,
I played Tennis for Cromer Tennis club for
20 years. I was Club Coach for 7 Years, before that I worked at several
Camps in America
teaching Tennis.
I also trained as a chef/Front
of House at Norwich City College for 2 Years.
I have always loved traveling and in 2000 I left England
for Australia, where I have been
involved in running a backpackers called Melbourne Connection Hostel for
the past 8 years.
My love of Football started at the age of 6 with Arsenal
Football Club, however my allegiance to
English Football wavered in the 80's due to the unrest on the terraces
and my passion grew for a
game called Gridiron Football, instead of Goalkeepers, Midfield and Strikers,
I was now faced with
Quarterbacks, Running Backs, Wide Receivers, Line Backers, Safeties and
a host of other
positions to learn.
In
1985 I started watching American Football on UK Channel 4.
However it until 1989 and the Joe Montana lead drive that beat
the Bengals in Super Bowl XXIII that I really started to follow the
game of Gridiron! I would listen to Madden and Summeral for the
next 6 years over the live armed forces network and also catch up
with the highlights on Channel 4, it got so bad that if we couldn’t
pick up the radio we would have the Channel 4 ceefax screen up
showing the live scores. Then Fox TV got involved showing 1 live
game a week, soon to be double header shows, this fueled my
desire to attend a game live! This I did in 1996.
My first live game at the Meadowlands, the Giants
vs. the Bills, what a game, what an atmosphere,
and what an ending!!!, I was hooked further live games followed, a treble
header the following year,
Green Bay, Denver and the Thanksgiving Day Game in Dallas, I was mesmerized
by the vastness
of the Stadiums, the Tailgating and trash talking done between fans before
and after the game, more
live games followed in Detroit, Boston, Oakland and Arizona, it was then
I realized my dream!
I wanted to visit every Stadium in America. To date I have traveled to
24 Stadiums over a 12 year
period, during my last trip back to England I found out that an American
by the name of Peter
Baroody had completed a 31 game tour around the States visiting all 31
NFL Stadiums in 107 days,
blown away by his achievements in 2002 I realized that this would be my
new goal.
The new target of 33 stadiums to include Canada and England made the attempt
even
more difficult, 33 stadiums in 3 different countries in 106 days. A further
record attempt to set
the most games attended in 1 season is now also planned, currently no
record exist, but if it did
then Peter Baroody would hold it due to the 31 games he attended in 2002.
I would set the bench
mark at 38 to include the Superbowl and hopefully the pro bowl in Hawaii.
